The Washington State Office of the Attorney General is recruiting for two full time exempt positions in our Policy Unit. These positions may be located in either Olympia or Seattle, Washington and are not union-represented.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Senior Policy Analyst: Salary Range $86,000 – 95,000 annually
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy Analyst : Salary Range $77,000 – $85,000 annually
The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the preferred candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Researching & Improving Laws and Regulations
The Legislature often tasks the AGO Policy Division with solving compelling problems through intense research, stakeholder engagement, and persuasive written reports. The work of the Policy Division has a direct and meaningful impact on communities and the people of Washington State. Example legislative topics assigned to the Policy Division include: police use of force, environmental justice, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and People (MMIWP), hate crimes, immigrant and refugee issues, sexual assault, and data privacy.
High-Profile Policy Programs
The Policy Division focuses on high-profile policy programs that address prominent and important community issues. The division is responsible for executing youth, and veteran hotlines through its Office of Military and Veteran Legal Assistance (OMVLA) and HearMeWA programs. A hate crimes hotline is forthcoming.
Position 1: AI Task Force Senior Policy Analyst Position & Essential Functions
In March 2024, the Washington State Legislature adopted the Attorney General’s proposal to launch an Artificial Intelligence Task Force. Accordingly, the AGO is looking for an experienced Senior Policy Analyst candidate to assume the leadership role of the AI Task Force. This high profile position will be responsible for a diverse task force and eight subcommittees comprising stakeholders from the community, private business, advocacy organizations, and politicians.
The AI Task Force Sr. Policy Analyst will require the ability to listen to different perspectives, collect a multitude of details, and translate them into high level, easily communicable points. The Sr. Policy Analyst will be responsible for skilled facilitation of technical concepts and multiple written reports to the legislature.
You will need to uniquely adjust your communication style to successfully work with vastly different groups while leading the task force in a unified direction.

This position will facilitate regular meetings, continuously engage with interested and impacted organizations and communities, and work with the task force to develop research and written products for submission on areas of concern identified in law and develop a final report and recommendations for the Governor and Legislature by July 1, 2026.
