Organizational Description & Position Overview

Strategies to End Homelessness (STEH) is a nationally recognized leader of a coordinated community effort to end homelessness in Greater Cincinnati. Since 2007, STEH has led a comprehensive system of care to prevent and eventually end homelessness in Cincinnati/Hamilton County. Working in partnership with 30 non-profit organizations, STEH coordinates a centralized emergency shelter hotline, homelessness prevention, street outreach, emergency shelter and housing solutions with the goal of ending homelessness.

The Data Analyst position is designed to manage and support a broad array of programmatic, development, and data initiatives, including 1) Working with STEH staff and partners to collect and analyze data on the homeless or housing-unstable population and 2) Organizing and implementing data review on a system-wide basis.

Essential Job Functions

• Background Research: Research the previous use of data and data analytics regarding homelessness, including the review of studies and reports found in electronic databases;
• Data Wrangling & Preparation: Acquire, assess, transform, clean, and otherwise prepare new and existing datasets for analysis. Work to maximize data quality, integrity, completeness and the protection and security of Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
• Data Analysis: Use Power Bi, Tableau, SQL, Python and/or R for data exploration and analysis.
• Visualization: Create and edit insightful data visualizations, such as charts and tables.
• Presentation and Reporting: Compile your findings and analyses into clear, concise reports and presentations for various stakeholders, translating complex data into actionable insights that can be understood by those who have not worked in with data or data analytics.
• Conduct research on topics specific to both public and private grants, HUD standards and other relevant needs.
• Provide reporting using the organization’s Homeless Management Information Service (HMIS), which is Clarity by Bitfocus.
• Communicate with and procure non-HMIS data from outside service agencies; hashing data as appropriate to protect sensitive information when needed/applicable.
• Analyze local data

Qualifications

• Be able to work independently, while accepting direct supervision and collaboration among departments, recognizing what and when to communicate with co-workers and when to seek guidance.
• Previous experience with data analysis and/or programming tools or products (examples: Power BI, Tableau, Python, R, SQL, etc.).
• Advanced skill with Microsoft Excel
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office apps including Outlook, Word, Teams, and OneDrive.
• Organizational skills and flexibility to manage multiple projects/deadlines simultaneously.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both in speaking and writing.
• Basic understanding of social service systems, and specifically homelessness and HMIS, would be a plus.
• Willingness to learn about and understand homelessness, homelessness prevention, and the organization’s role in making homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring
• Ability to prioritize work and multitask as required
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree and experience in data analysis and preparing data for analysis. The salary for the selected applicant will reflect their level of experience.

Travel Requirements

The person in this position may be required to travel and will need access to reliable local transportation (which could include access to an automobile, public transportation, or rideshare services such as Uber). However, required travel is expected to be rare.
