Intel Labs is seeking a motivated AI research engineer in the area of cutting-edge AI systems. This is a full-time position with the Brain-Inspired Computing Lab (BCL). BCL is creating the next generation of AI systems, pushing the boundaries of research and technology in terms of scale, performance, and capabilities for a positive impact on society. In this position, you will be responsible for building new SW and HW systems from our machine learning and artificial intelligence research. You will work in close collaboration with BCL research scientists and with other Intel teams to maximize the value of new Intel architectures and for in-house deployment of our technical advancements.

You will be:

• Leading the charge on software engineering for our AI systems
• Writing production-ready code, optimized for existing and upcoming Intel architectures, stemming from AI research prototypes.
• Discovering and developing new software/hardware co-designs opportunities
• Writing code for proof-of-concept experiments and prototypes

Experimenting with the latest AI models and algorithms

We look for expert-level software engineering along with a solid understanding of state-of-the-art parallel and distributed computing, computer architectures, and algorithm optimization and benchmarking. Familiarity with techniques in machine learning, deep learning, and/or reinforcement learning will be appreciated.

You must also possess strong verbal and written communication skills and the demonstrated ability to work in a demanding team-oriented collaborative environment. You are expected to maintain substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles, theories, and practices, as well as contribute regularly to open source projects and the research community at-large. You may also participate in the development of intellectual property.

Qualifications

You must possess the below requirements to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Experience listed below would be obtained through a combination of your schoolwork and/or classes and/or research and/or relevant previous job and/or internship experiences.

Minimum Qualifications:

• The candidate must possess a Master degree or PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a relevant engineering discipline
• 2+ years of experience in software optimization for AI
• 3+ years of software engineering experience, with strong skills in scripting (e.g., Python) and high-performance programming (e.g., C++)
• 3+ years of experience in computer architecture

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in distributed and parallel programming.
• Experience coding in alternatives architectures (e.g., GPUs, FPGAs)
• Publications in conferences and journals in the fields of systems research, computer architecture, hardware and emerging technologies, and AI software optimization

Annual Salary Range for jobs which could be performed in US, California: $162,082.00-$243,222.00

• Salary range dependent on a number of factors including location and experience

Working Model

This role will be eligible for our hybrid work model which allows employees to split their time between working on-site at their assigned Intel site and off-site. In certain circumstances the work model may change to accommodate business needs.
